The world can always use more pediatric surgeons who are willing to give up some of their time to help children in need. Dr. Saad Saad is one of these kinds of medical professionals, and he has been donating his time as a pediatric surgeon in order to perform surgeries on children who have no other hope.
He first realized he wanted to be a surgeon when he was living in Kuwait. It was there that he learned about the trials of working outdoors in 100 degree weather. This motivated him to pick a profession where he would be able to enjoy air conditioning, and this ended up being in the field of surgery. In the early 2000s, Dr. Saad Saad was asked to help serve kids in the Middle East by the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF). The charitable organization was created in 1991 in order to provide medical services to children whose family cannot afford to pay for it themselves. His first case was a 15 year old child who had holes in his abdomen due to being shot by a gun.
The doctor was able to patch the holes up after the child was flown out to the United States for the surgery. After this, Dr. Saad Saad performed surgery on more kids; some who had been the victim of bomb blasts and some who had other issues.
Dr. Saad Saad has always believed that it is important for skilled and experienced surgeons to pass down their knowledge to others. He even flew out to Palestine in order to train other local pediatric surgeons and to help out where he could.
After taking part in many surgeries, where he allowed local surgeons to watch and learn, he left knowing that many of them were fully capable of performing surgery on their own. During his time in Palestine, he was more than happy to be able to help, and he has also saved the government of Palestine plenty of money because it pays for surgeries and travel expenses when people can’t afford to do so for themselves.
Over the years, Dr. Saad Saad has earned many different awards and has been recognized for his unique talents. He was honored by the president of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, who awarded him with the Gold Medal of Palestine, and he also earned a couple of awards that were given to him by the PCRF.
The governor of Ramallah and its Ministry of Health also honored Dr. Saad Saad with an award representing his humanitarian work. The good doctor has recently retired, but he will never be forgotten for everything he has done and accomplished. Simply put, there is no other pediatric surgeon like him in the world.
