Sujit Choudhry Provides Significant Influence and Research to Today’s Policies

Sujit Choudhry is an internationally influential speaker, professor, researcher, and advisor. He specializes in constitution building, governance, and rule of law processes across several countries during times of political turmoil and ceasefires. Professor Choudhry has over 90 publications as well as has spoken in 30 countries.

Professor Choudhry currently serves as a Guest Researcher at WZB Berlin Social Science Center. In 2012, he had established the Center for Constitutional Transitions as Founding Director. He frequently posts on his personal Medium Account his opinion and perspective of top global issues.

Professor Choudhry’s most recent post covers the fine line between hate speech and free speech. As rallies across the nation grab media attention and raise First Amendment controversies, Professor Choudhry explains what speech and protests are protected by the Constitution by applying them to today’s tweets and protests.

He summarizes Chaplinsky v. New Hampshire in which a Jehovah’s Witness stood on a public sidewalk and handed out pamphlets saying organized religion a “racket.” Though no acts of violence was at the scene, Chaplinksy was convicted by the state of New Hampshire and upheld by the a unanimous vote from the Supreme Court because his actions had intention of breaching peace.

More recently, Professor Choudhry covers the Westboro Baptist Church Case (Formally Snyder v. Phelps). The Court validated that the protest held on public property was protected by the First Amendment.

He concludes his post by stating that all protests are protected by the First Amendment meaning all Nazis, KKK, and Alt-Right Groups have the ability to protest as long as protestors do not attempt imply or create violence.
